Manual selection mode gives you precise control over what context the AI reads before generating a reply. Perfect for complex pages with multiple conversations, long discussions where you only need specific comments, or when automatic detection isn't enough.

When to use manual mode

Use manual selection when there are multiple conversations on one page and you need to choose which thread to reference. It's also useful for long discussions where you only want to select relevant comments, complex layouts with non-standard sites, or when you need to reference exact text from earlier in the thread.

How to use manual mode

Click in a text field, then click the Quickfix AI icon and click the "Manual" tab (next to Automatic). Click "Select elements on page"—elements on the page become selectable.

  1. Hover over text, comments, or posts you want Quickfix AI to read

  2. When you hover, elements show a blue border to indicate they're selectable

  3. Click to select individual comments, email messages, or specific paragraphs

  4. Selected elements show a green border and get added to "Selected Elements"

  5. Once you've selected everything you need, click "Stop selecting content" to exit selection mode

Your selected items appear in the Quickfix AI panel under "Selected Elements". Click the delete button next to any element to remove it, or click "Clear all" at the top to remove all selections and start over. Then adjust the length setting if desired and click "Generate Reply". AI will use only your selected elements as context.

Pro tip: Select elements in the order you want AI to read them. For example: original post, top comment, reply you're responding to. This gives AI the proper conversation flow.

Tips for better selections

You don't need to select everything. 2-4 key elements usually provide enough context. Too much context can dilute the focus of your reply.

Troubleshooting

If you can't enter selection mode, refresh the page and try again. Check that you're on a supported website and disable conflicting browser extensions temporarily if needed.

If selected elements disappear, this can happen if the page reloads or changes dynamically. Reselect the elements before generating.
