Custom instructions tell Quickfix AI how you want your replies to sound. Add instructions like "Be friendly and casual" or "Keep it professional" and the AI will follow them when you generate a reply. You can set different custom instructions for each website, and they're automatically saved when you generate a reply.
What are custom instructions?
Custom instructions are guidelines you give to the AI about how to write replies. Instead of getting generic responses, you get replies that match your personality and the situation you're in.
For example, if you want friendly replies with emojis on Twitter but professional replies on LinkedIn, you can set different custom instructions for each website. Quickfix AI remembers your preferences per website.
Custom instructions are saved per website and persist across browser sessions. Once you set them on a website, they're automatically applied every time you generate a reply on that site.
How to add custom instructions on a website
[Screenshot: Quickfix panel with custom instructions field above Generate Reply button]
Visit the website where you want to use custom instructions (like Reddit or Gmail)
Click inside a text field to open the Quickfix panel
Find the "Custom Instructions" field above the Generate Reply button
Type your instructions (for example: "Be friendly and helpful, avoid being too formal")
Click "Generate Reply" or "Improve Reply"
Your custom instructions are saved for that specific website when you generate a reply. Next time you visit that website, your instructions will automatically appear in the field and be applied to your replies.
Good to know: Custom instructions are only saved when you click Generate Reply or Improve Reply. Just typing them without generating won't save them.
Examples of good custom instructions
Here are some custom instructions that work well:
"Be friendly and use emojis occasionally" - Good for casual social media
"Keep it professional and concise" - Good for work emails and LinkedIn
"Be helpful and encouraging, avoid being too technical" - Good for answering questions
"Match the tone of the conversation" - Good for adapting to different situations
"Be direct and honest, don't sugarcoat things" - Good for straightforward replies
"Add humor when appropriate" - Good for Reddit and Twitter
The AI understands natural language, so you can write instructions the way you'd explain them to a friend. You don't need to use special formatting or technical language.
Tips for writing effective instructions
Keep your instructions short and clear. Long instructions can confuse the AI or slow down reply generation. Aim for 1-3 sentences that capture your main preferences.
Be specific about what you want. Instead of "be nice," try "be friendly and supportive." Instead of "sound smart," try "use clear explanations without jargon."
Focus on style and tone, not content. Custom instructions work best for describing how you want to sound, not what you want to say. The AI already knows what to say based on the context it reads from the page.
Pro tip: If you already know what you want to say, type it in the text field first, add your custom instructions, then click "Improve Reply" instead of "Generate Reply". This way the AI will improve your draft rather than generating something completely new from scratch.
Managing saved custom instructions
You can view and edit all your saved custom instructions from the extension settings. This is useful if you want to update instructions for multiple websites at once or see what you've saved.

Accessing extension settings
There are two ways to open the extension settings:
Right-click the Quickfix AI icon in your toolbar and select "Options"
Click the Quickfix AI icon to open the side panel, then click the settings icon (gear)
Editing saved websites
In the extension settings, click the "Websites" tab
Find the "Saved Websites" section
You'll see a list of websites where you've saved preferences
Click "Edit" next to any website to adjust settings
You can change the mode (Automatic/Manual), length, and custom instructions
Click "Save" to update your preferences
Changes take effect immediately. The next time you generate a reply on that website, your updated instructions will be applied.
Removing custom instructions
To remove custom instructions for a specific website, click "Edit" next to the website in Saved Websites, clear the custom instructions field, and click "Save". The AI will generate replies without custom instructions on that site.
